Into The Woods: Rated PG
Into the Woods came out Christmas Day 2014 with Anna Kendrick as Cinderella, Meryl Streep as the Witch, Chris Pine as Cinderella's Prince, Johnny Depp as the Wolf, and a slew of other actors in this musical disaster. The premise of the movie is that several characters are trying to go through the Woods for one purpose or another: Red is trying to bring bread to her sick grand mother, The Baker and and The Baker's wife are looking for 4 things; a cow as white as milk, a cloak as red as blood, hair as yellow as corn, and a slipper as pure as gold in order to break and curse that is on their family that is preventing them from having a child, and Jack is sent to sell his cow Milky White because she will not produce milk, and Cinderella is traveling to go the Prince's festival.
The film opens with the main characters wishing for something they don't have. Each are unhappy with their position in life and look to fix that. The problem with this film is that, for most of the movie, nothing really happens. The most entertaining moment is when Repunzel's prince and Cinderella's Prince (brothers) sing this song about how agonizing it is to not be with their loves.
The first half of the film was honestly the best part. Up until everything is happily ever after, you think that is the end, but unfortunately, they seem to start a whole other story when the female giantess (who came from the bean Cinderella threw over her shoulder after Jack had killed the first giant by cutting down the first beanstalk) comes to destroy the villages and kill Jack. At this point my fiance and I were just waiting for the film to be over to leave. In fact, several groups of the packed theater did get up and leave. Overall, I would wait until this movie comes to Redbox or a $2 theater before seeing this because I feel we wasted our $15, and I would give this movie a 3/10.
